The Endocannabinoid system is a biologic spectrum of receptors and neurotransmitters devoted to a multitude of homeostatic regulation. We all naturally synthesize Endocannabinoids, (humans and animals). We have receptors in our bodies dedicated to the regulation and performance of the endocannabinoid system as a whole. These properties are related to our capacity to create endogenous (our bodies produce) proteins that activate this endocannabinoid system.
Examples of areas the Endocannabinoid System has demonstrated effects in the body:
- Neurodegenerative conditions
- Inflammation / Pain
- Insulin sensitivity
- Fat and energy metabolism
As opposed to many of our other neurochemical systems on our body, the endocannabinoid system is extremely new to the scientific community. Only discovered in 1988 along with the primary receptors CB-1 and CB-2 and associated cannabidiol proteins, we are just now starting to appreciate how CBD is a natural way to augment and leverage our body’s healing properties through the endocannabinoid system.
